Water Hygiene Solutions Ltd first started up in 2010 with a small team – but with no one a stranger to chlorination and the ways to do it correctly.
Two years after starting, WHS were invited to commission the temporary infrastructure for the London 2012 Olympic Games, helping us grow as a company – in numbers, reputation and experience.
Before long, WHS became a nationwide water commissioning company, helping clients gain chlorination certificates across the UK. WHS are continuing to grow, expanding our client network from annual tank cleans to strong working relationships with large self-lay providers and utilities companies across the UK.

So, what is a Chlorination Certificate?
A chlorination certificate does what is says on the tin – it certificates your water systems have been chlorinated – or disinfected via chlorine. Not only that, WHS chlorination certificates are detailed with pictures, statistics and comments proving your chlorination has been done to meet and or exceed the legislative standard of BS8558:2015.
Why do you need a chlorination certificate?
Chlorination certificates are required to prove to your Water Authority or building authorities that chlorination has been completed sufficiently and the water is safe to use. Without one, penalties such as delayed developments, illness or huge charges may occur.

Great! We can certainly do that for you.
We complete service connections to BS8558:2015 and PD855468:2015 daily across the UK, supporting clients such as self-lay providers, property managers and utilities companies to connection. We help clients meet deadlines set by Water Authorities, understanding and appreciating the importance of making connections on time. As well as the provision of chlorination certificates once the service is complete, we also provide Pressure Testing certification to IGN-4-01-03 and submit water samples to a UKAS accredited lab for analysis as further evidence for the water’s quality after chlorination.

“My cold-water storage tank needs disinfecting.”
We can do that, too. Cold-water storage tanks are a common water supply within buildings such as offices, warehouses, domestic buildings, schools and hospitals – all of which we have worked on.
Water tanks can harbour huge amounts of bacteria, including but now limited to Legionella and Pseudomonas, which can be harmful when ingested. We recommend annual tank cleaning and 6 monthly inspection, in line with L8, to ensure tanks are kept clean and free of the nasty bacteria that can easily proliferate in a multitude of temperatures. A full, regular disinfection is essential and prevents water-borne disease. We can also take optional TVC or Legionella samples to further evidence the tank’s disinfection, analysed by UKAS labs.

Hazard signs are always used when completing down services, to ensure all occupants are kept safe from chemical consumption.
“I’ve had new internal pipework installed and need a chlorination certificate as soon as possible.”
We understand it is urgent and we can act on it. Down services – disinfections of whole buildings or internal pipework installations – are works we complete daily. But how do we do it? There is actually multiple ways we can complete the chlorination, depending on the type of building it is – nevertheless you will be provided with a full chlorination certificate to evidence the system’s disinfection, so you can continue with your developments without any delays or penalties.

Taking the prefix from ‘unsatisfied’!
It is not uncommon for us to be called by desperate clients who has been let down by the previous contractor. Chlorination can be carried out in multiple ways and unfortunately, some companies choose cheaper equipment options for a cheaper and more attractive service - especially for people who may not know better. Instances where garden hoses have been used and unmonitored levels of are chlorine dosed into a potable (drinking water) supply have left us baffled and clients unhappy – but we are happy to be the ones to sort it out. Equipment is much more essential than some companies in the industry convey – quality equipment equals a quality service. Cheaper equipment may equal a cheaper service – but ultimately, a cheaper service in chlorination mostly equates to failed jobs, poor quality water and further, higher charges in the future.
We are a team of Olympians and Golfers!
…Well, sort of. Water Hygiene Solutions Ltd were asked to complete the chlorination works for the temporary infrastructure at the London 2012 Olympic Games; and we did! All services carried out were completed successfully first time. We also regularly complete chlorination services for the Ryder Cup. We are very appreciative of the huge opportunities we have been given as a company and look forward to more in the future.

We pride ourselves on our ability to help clients who may not know what they need. An example of this would be a tank clean we have recently completed for a company in London. Tanks can often be hard or unsafe to access – especially when located in un-boarded attics and confined spaces. The details we were given were minimal - only the capacity and address. Two of our fully trained engineers attended site, inspected the tank and cleaned it the same day. They ran into a couple of obstacles, but thankfully obstacles they are familiar with and were able to fully disinfect the tank as usual to meet and exceed HSG 274 (Pt.2). The client was fully certificated to PD855468:2015 – happy days!
